Patrick Monteiro

I’m a Firmware Engineer focused on the development, testing, and debugging of embedded systems. I’m especially drawn to hardware-conscious coding and memory optimization, and I enjoy staying current with the latest embedded advancements.

Since March 2023, I’ve been on the KleverSafe hardware wallet team, developing device firmware. I built a framework to add multiple instances of the same USB class to an STM32 USB composite device using STM32Cube, and I integrated multiple blockchain networks into the firmware.

I also developed firmware for Klever Vending, enabling crypto payments on vending machines with ESP-IDF and LVGL, including support for OTA updates. On the security side, I developed FIDO U2F functionality so the hardware wallet can operate as a FIDO U2F security key.

Beyond product work, I’m a maintainer of the open-source cryptography SDK KOS-RS, written in Rust for embedded systems (ARM-Cortex M4, no std) with extremely limited memory resources. I also built a Rust driver for cross-platform communication, including iOS, Android, Windows, Linux, macOS, and browsers via WebAssembly.
