What I'm looking for

I’m looking for an academic role where I can teach Architectural & Urban History/Theory, pursue research on informal urbanism, discourse, and critical heritage, and collaborate across institutions—while contributing to high-impact modules, public-facing exhibitions, and research-led learning.

I’m an Assistant Professor of Architectural and Urban History and Theory and a PhD candidate at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, where my research examines how society, governance, and discourse shape informal urbanism in contemporary Cairo and beyond. My work has been recognized with BRISMES’s Leigh Douglas Memorial Prize for the best UK-based PhD thesis on a Middle East subject.

Before my doctorate, I completed my BArch and MSc in Architecture at Cairo University (graduating top of my class with High Honours). I’ve combined academic teaching with practice and research, including tutoring and module leadership at the University of Greenwich, UCL, and earlier teaching roles at the American University in Cairo—while also developing a focused interest in critical heritage, the politics of space, and how cityscapes are contested through Arab film and popular media.
