Milagros Romero
@milagrosromero
I research rural sustainability transformations, financial inclusion, and development through mixed-methods evidence.
What I'm looking for
I'm completing a PhD in Development Studies at the University of Antwerp, where I research sustainability transformations and development processes in rural Nicaragua.
I design mixed-methods research that combines qualitative, quantitative, and participatory approaches to assess the socio-environmental performance of green microfinance initiatives. I also engage academic, institutional, and development stakeholders across Europe and Latin America.
At the Institute of Research and Development Nitlapan, Central American University, I designed and coordinated development and action-research projects on rural development, sustainable livelihoods, financial inclusion, agricultural value chains, and climate change. My work included monitoring and evaluation systems, market studies, training materials, fieldwork, workshops, and policy-oriented knowledge products.
I've co-authored peer-reviewed research on transformative change, deforestation, community-based monitoring, financial inclusion, and microfinance in Nicaragua. I also teach and facilitate learning for Master's and undergraduate audiences, including courses in Microfinance and Development and Territorial Development.
