Mattia Gagno
@mattiagagno
Research intern in biomedical engineering, advancing dual-isotope SPECT/CT quantification with validated correction models.
What I'm looking for
I’m a Biomedical Engineering research intern working at Minerva Imaging ApS, where my master’s thesis focuses on dual-isotope preclinical SPECT/CT imaging. I investigate Lu-177/Tb-161 crosstalk using a Mediso SPECT/CT system, and I develop and validate correction strategies grounded in optimized energy windowing and mathematical modeling.
I also contribute hands-on to preclinical imaging operations: I perform equipment calibration for Mediso SPECT/CT and PET/CT, conduct activity calibration and uniformity testing, and run data quality control with ROI drawing and image analysis using FUSION Imaging Software. Previously, I completed an internship in biomechanical analysis at BBSoF S.r.l., using face tracking to compute the Face Mobility Index (FMI) to assess treatment response for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).
Experience
Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
Research Intern (SPECT/CT)
Minerva Imaging ApS
Aug 2025 - Mar 2026 (7 months)
Developed and validated dual-isotope preclinical SPECT/CT correction strategies to address crosstalk between Lu-177 and Tb-161 on a Mediso SPECT/CT system. Modeled and optimized energy windowing to enable accurate simultaneous quantification for mixed-isotope oncology studies.
Student Assistant (Imaging)
Minerva Imaging ApS
Aug 2025 - Mar 2026 (7 months)
Performed calibration and uniformity testing for Mediso SPECT/CT and PET/CT systems, plus Hidex Well Counter and dose calibrator workflows. Conducted data quality control, ROI drawing, and image analysis using FUSION Imaging Software to support preclinical imaging studies.
Research Intern (Biomechanics)
BBSoF S.r.l.
Feb 2021 - Jul 2021 (5 months)
Conducted biomechanical analysis for patients with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) using face tracking methodologies in collaboration with the NeMo Clinical Center. Computed the Face Mobility Index (FMI) from pre- and post-treatment data to assess response to pharmacological interventions.
