Marina de Castro Frid

I'm a Research Fellow at University College Dublin's School of Geography, where I serve as Associate Director of the Digital Economy and Extreme Politics Lab (DeepLab) and coordinate the ERC project Flexible Work, Rigid Politics in Brazil, India, and the Philippines.

My current book project examines how beauty workers in Global South countries use social media to participate in markets, claim their value, and transform the global beauty industry.

I've led applied qualitative research on consumer experiences, brand image, and corporate cultures for clients across banking, beverages, insurance, fashion, beauty, and media. My earlier industry experience at Bradesco Seguros spans administrative, trainee, and section management roles.

I've also taught at PUC-Rio's IAG Business School and held research appointments at PUC-Rio, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brown University, and the University of Birmingham. I'm co-author of “O paraíso do consumo: Émile Zola, a magia e os grandes magazines.”
