Maanya Bhatia

I’m a Computer Science and Data Science student with a strong foundation in AI and machine learning, and a clear orientation toward policy, governance, and strategy. In my Research Intern role at CAIR Lab, IIT Mandi, I pioneered a DINOv2-based marine biofouling detection workflow and built a semi-supervised segmentation pipeline, reaching mIoU of 0.4624 with work submitted to IEEE OCEANS 2026.

I also collaborated on federated learning for medical AI at IIT Hyderabad, creating a framework for skin lesion classification that supports privacy and regulatory compliance while improving cross-hospital generalisation and diagnostic fairness under non-IID conditions. Through edge AI work in industrial defect detection, I deployed CNN-based defect detection on edge devices with 96% accuracy and 20ms latency (7x faster than cloud, with ~60% bandwidth reduction), and I bring this technical depth to my goal of exploring how technology is regulated and how policy frameworks can be both effective and equitable.
