Career Summary

I’m an Agricultural Extension Officer with 3+ years serving rural farmers under Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development. My day-to-day is field work: training farmers, setting up demonstration plots, monitoring crop/livestock performance, and linking communities to inputs, markets, and finance. I’ve worked across diverse agro-ecological zones, so I adapt advice to local rainfall, soil, and farmer capacity.

Key Achievements & Responsibilities

1. Farmer training + adoption: Designed and delivered training on conservation agriculture, integrated pest management, good agronomy practices, and climate-smart techniques. Focused on practical demos so farmers can replicate at home.

2. Yield + food security impact: Supported farmer groups to shift from subsistence to market-oriented production. Tracked adoption rates and yield changes through simple record-keeping tools.

3. Financial literacy for farmers: Used my BCom Applied Accounting Hons background to teach farm budgeting, record keeping, cost-benefit analysis, and preparing loan applications. Helped farmers meet requirements for agri-finance and input schemes.

4. Data + reporting: Collected field data on crop performance, farmer demographics, and intervention outcomes for ministry reports. Comfortable with Excel and basic data analysis to show what’s working.

5. Community mobilization: Built trust with farmer groups, traditional leaders, and ward officials to drive collective action on land prep, pest campaigns, and market linkages.

Education

BSc Agricultural Economics and Development Honours + BCom Applied Accounting Honours, both from Midlands State University. The economics degree gives me tools for value chain analysis and rural development. The accounting degree lets me translate farming into numbers farmers and lenders understand.

Interests & What Drives Me

1. Climate-smart agriculture: I’m passionate about drought-tolerant crops, soil health, water harvesting, and practices that cut risk for smallholders facing erratic rainfall.

2. Agri-finance + market access: I enjoy closing the gap between good agronomy and profitable farming. Helping farmers keep records, budget, and negotiate with buyers is where I add most value.

3. Youth + women in agriculture: I’m keen on programs that bring young people and women into agribusiness as owners, not just labor.

4. Technology adoption: Interested in using simple digital tools - USSD, WhatsApp groups, basic farm apps - to scale extension advice beyond one-on-one visits.
