Fully remote work where accounting or payments is the actual domain, not a vertical someone else is supposed to understand. I want to keep building the systems I also have to live with: reconciliation, close automation, data pipelines, and the reporting on top of them.

Leandro Barba
@leandrobarba
I do the accounting and finance work, and I write the software that runs it: reconciliation engines, tax ETL pipelines, Python and SQL.
What I'm looking for
I came to software from the finance side, and I still work on both. Since November 2024 I have led CGR Consulting and CGR SAS, an accounting and finance services firm with its managed-ERP product, where I am responsible for the operation and also the only engineer on the platform. I own every piece end to end: design, tests, deployment, and the on-call when something breaks.
On the finance side I run month-end close, bank and payment reconciliation, cash flow, and budget-versus-actual for a portfolio of clients, plus Argentine multi-jurisdiction tax compliance. On the engineering side I built the systems that execute it:
- A reconciliation engine that ingests payment-processor settlement reports, books every operation with its fees and withholdings, and pairs both legs of inter-account transfers. It replaced a manual spreadsheet close.
- ETL pipelines that pull registries, filings, and apportionment coefficients from six tax authorities, including headless-browser automation for the portals with no API.
- A FastAPI service on PostgreSQL that versions, signs, and validates reference datasets, refuses to publish a release that breaks a rule, and flags drift against the standard.
- 24 in-house ERP modules on PostgreSQL with 308 test files and around 1,100 commits, plus infrastructure as code across 14 Docker Swarm stacks.
Day to day I work in Python and SQL, drive spreadsheets programmatically with openpyxl, xlsxwriter, and gspread, integrate systems over REST and webhooks, and automate workflows with self-hosted n8n. I use AI agents as a core part of how I build, and I operate MCP servers that expose databases and business systems to them.
What interests me is the seam between finance and engineering: taking a process someone does by hand every month, understanding why it exists, and replacing it with something that runs on its own and can be audited afterwards. I am drawn to payments, accounting, and tax because the rules are strict and the mistakes are expensive, which keeps the engineering honest.
