Years of writing words for money has taught me one thing: good copy is a puzzle, whatever it's attached to. How do you fit three ideas into four words? How do you make a paywall something people don't hate? How do you guide someone through an entire app experience without them ever stopping to think about the words?
I've been solving that puzzle in different ways for most of my career, through copywriting, SEO writing, and social media management, and for four+ years writing pretty much every type of copy a mobile app needs: UI strings, ASO metadata, onboarding, error states, paywalls, push notifications, in-app events, screenshot copy.
At GreenTomato Media I started as a content manager, briefing and directing a team of freelance writers. Over time that grew into full content ownership across a whole portfolio of apps, from party games to a narrative werewolf game (I wrote the whole narrative, including building the cause-and-effect content structure) to an AI companion app built from concept stage.
I worked directly in Figma with designers, wrote with localization in mind from draft one, and made final editorial calls across everything. Never a dull moment.
I use AI as a sounding board, not a ghostwriter. Every word gets chosen by me.
I like copy that does its job without getting in the way, and occasionally has a bit of personality when the app calls for it. But sometimes a 'Next' button just needs to say 'Next.'
Now looking for the next puzzle to solve, ideally somewhere that needs someone who can write, edit, and manage in equal measure.
