@josfilipe
I build interpretable machine learning systems for cybersecurity and data analysis.
What I'm looking for
At Instituto Pedro Nunes, I build reproducible data pipelines and machine learning models for intrusion detection. I processed millions of network-flow records from the BCCC-CIC-IDS2018 dataset, reduced 322 traffic features to 50, and trained Random Forest classifiers across six attack scenarios.
I'm completing an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at the University of Coimbra, where my thesis examines feature analysis for improved AI-based anomaly detection in microservice applications. I use SHAP, LIME, and PDP/ICE to understand model decisions and identify dataset artefacts that can inflate detection performance.
My projects span generative art models, skin-lesion classification, and an interactive Lisbon Airbnb dashboard, combining Python, PyTorch, data engineering, visualisation, and practical analysis.

Activities Team Member
Community Summer Camp
Jul 2022 - Present (4 years 2 months)
Led a team of eight volunteers running a week-long residential camp for 30 children, coordinating planning and on-site setup. Designed and ran daily activities, holding continuous responsibility for supervision and safety of the children.
Student Researcher
Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN)
Sep 2025 - Jul 2026 (10 months)
Built a reproducible preprocessing pipeline for the BCCC-CIC-IDS2018 intrusion detection dataset using Python, Dask and pandas, and trained Random Forest classifiers across six attack scenarios. Applied SHAP, LIME and PDP/ICE analysis to identify features driving model decisions and expose dataset artefacts.
Volunteer
Municipal Youth Programme
Jan 2016 - Dec 2020 (4 years 11 months)
Took part in a council-run summer programme carrying out maintenance and painting work in public spaces across the municipality.
