Jofrey Nasson
@jofreynasson
I build accessible AI ecosystems—founding AI Hub Tanzania and contributing to Python/ML open source.
What I'm looking for
I’m building an AI Hub in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, focused on making artificial intelligence accessible to local developers, students, and businesses across East Africa. My work spans AI tools, business automation, research, and community education, and I bring it to life through instruction at Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST).
I’m also a Google Summer of Code 2026 contributor to DIPY, contributing scientific Python work via merged pull requests that improve documentation and support neuroscience researchers worldwide. In parallel, I’ve founded and led a 150+ member technical community, and I’ve led technical delivery—from an IoT-to-insight FastAPI + Scikit-learn Random Forest pipeline for real-time water quality prediction to coordinating an AI-powered AMR surveillance initiative and translating technical AI/ML into clear, funder-ready proposals.

Google Summer of Code 2026 contributor to DIPY. Merged three pull requests improving numpydoc documentation for the DIPY scientific Python library used by neuroscience researchers worldwide.
Contribute to DIPY, a Python-based scientific computing library for neuroimaging analysis, under NumFOCUS, a nonprofit supporting open-source data science tools. Deliver multiple merged pull requests, working within a large, production-grade Python codebase and collaborative Git-based development workflow used across the scientific data community.
Building an AI Hub focused on making artificial intelligence accessible to developers, students, and businesses across East Africa. Focus areas: AI tools, business automation, research, and community education
Instructs undergraduate learners and delivers coursework in machine learning and AI. Teaches using Python-based approaches, including convolutional and recurrent neural network concepts.
Project Coordinator
Jan 2025 - Present (1 year 6 months)
Coordinate a multi-institutional AI research initiative building an AI-powered antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance platform for Tanzania, working alongside the Principal Investigator and partner institutions (MRRH, NIMR, MCHAS-UDSM). Lead the design and drafting of large-scale research funding proposals (e.g., NIHR Global Health Research Themed Programme), defining data pipelines, analytic
Project Lead Developer
Jan 2025 - Present (1 year 6 months)
Designed an end-to-end IoT-to-insight pipeline: sensor data collection (Raspberry Pi 4, Arduino Uno), a FastAPI backend, and a Scikit-learn Random Forest classifier for real-time water quality prediction. Authored the full technical project report and documentation, demonstrating the ability to move an AI system from raw sensor data to a deployable, explainable model.
Built and lead a 150+ member technical community organized into 7 specialized sub-groups covering AI, machine learning, and signal processing. Design and deliver hands-on training in Python, machine learning, and data science tools to students and early-career developers across East Africa. Manage end-to-end delivery of community initiatives — from technical curriculum and workshops to online pres
Parttime Instructor
Jan 2023 - Present (3 years 6 months)
Teach undergraduate courses in computer programming, networking, and artificial intelligence, including Python-based data analysis and socket programming. Design exams, marking schemes, and structured study plans; regularly translate advanced technical material into accessible instruction for large student cohorts.
