Jay Shatara
@jayshatara
Public information and multimedia professional who builds community trust through video, press, and digital communications.
What I'm looking for
I’m a Public Information Officer and multimedia storyteller who helps communities stay informed with clear messaging across social media, websites, and video. In local government roles, I’ve owned end-to-end communication execution—from interviews and speechwriting to publishing approval workflows.
At the Village of Wellington, I run government social media pages, setup interviews for local leaders, and write full speeches and press releases. I also run the entire website for wellingtonfl.gov, handling proofreading and go-live approvals, and I started and produced a weekly video series and monthly podcast covering what’s coming next for the community.
Previously, as Community Affairs Manager for Indian River County, I managed social media, supported leader interviews, and helped organize high-visibility events like ribbon cuttings and groundbreakings while capturing content for the website and media. I worked closely with the Utilities director to revamp water communications, including lead service line letters, automated calling during hurricanes, and the annual “Water Quality Report.”
Earlier in my career at the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and as a TV News Reporter/Anchor, I partnered with media to set up strong department stories, shot and edited promotional videos and PSAs, and wrote and distributed press releases during critical incidents. My work has been recognized with an AP Best Longform Hard Feature 2018 Winner for “Parkland Shooting.”
