Ibrar Khan
@ibrarkhan1
Tenured professor and Director at COBAM, advancing research in antibiotic resistance, bacteriophages, and antimicrobial therapeutics.
What I'm looking for
I am a Director at the Centre of Biotechnology and Microbiology (COBAM), University of Peshawar, and a Tenured Professor. In 2024, I stepped into the “Director (Full Term)” role while continuing to lead research and teaching with a strong emphasis on impact, rigor, and biosafety.
My work focuses on molecular characterization and mutational analysis of antibiotic-resistant genes, supported by in silico studies and hands-on lab validation. I also drive discovery and development efforts for new bacteriophages and engineered endolysins against drug-resistant bacterial pathogens, and I assess herbal medicine and natural products for antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria.
I have led funded projects across antimicrobial susceptibility testing (including MIC testing and pathogen isolation), PCR and microscopy-based workflows, and bioassay screening and standardization for medicinal plants. I actively supervise research (HEC and IRTC Approved Supervisor), contribute to program leadership (e.g., Coordinator BS Biotechnology Program), and bring a strong publication record (Articles = 64; IF ≈ 100; Citations = 1132; h-index = 17).
