Gabriel Chuan

I'm Gabriel, a versatile and experienced software engineer with a BSc in Information Systems from Singapore Management University. I approach building like an Indie Hacker, focusing on building MVPs fast, validating demand, and scaling. I have experience in scaling engineering teams and care about honing my craft to build world-class products faster and better.

In my current role as Head of Engineering at Airfoil Studio, I scaled the engineering team from myself to 9-12 people and set the team's direction to specialize in NextJS and Design Systems. I also handled after-sales, client management, and staff allocation, and created streamlined processes to operationalize work at scale. I nurtured engineers through regular 1:1s, a leveling framework, and matching them with work that challenged them to grow.

Previously, as a Rails Software Engineer at Hunter.io, I enhanced existing features and built new ones that contributed to increased customer happiness and revenue. At Novocall.co, I was the lead architect for the React frontend of Novochat.co, working with React Hooks, Context API, Rails Action Cable, and more. And as a Co-Founder of SMUMODS.com, I built the entire backend in Rails and GraphQL and developed a distributed crawler using Selenium and advanced web scraping techniques.
