Florencia Mohamed
@florenciamohamed
I turn microbial genomics and metagenomics data into biologically meaningful insights across environmental and food systems.
What I'm looking for
I'm currently analyzing NGS data at the University of Padua to study marine microorganisms and invertebrates, including genome-resolved metagenomics in coastal ecosystems and differential expression in aquatic invertebrates.
My work combines computational and experimental biology end-to-end. I prepare and process Nanopore long-read sequencing libraries and use biological context to critically interpret complex datasets.
During my PhD at CERELA, I investigated sweetener production by Fructobacillus and mannitol-enriched foods. I carried out functional, comparative genomic, and phylogenetic analyses while optimizing fermentation processes through bioreactors.
Across more than 10 years in microbial research, I've worked with marine ecosystems, food fermentation, anaerobic microorganisms, and bacterial isolates. I'm especially interested in environmental and applied microbiology that connects experimental design, data analysis, and biological interpretation.
