Dustin Bortner

I'm a Staff-level full-stack engineer and platform architect with 15+ years of experience building secure, scalable systems in the financial and enterprise SaaS space. My core strengths lie in designing modern cloud-native platforms and leading high-leverage technical initiatives—especially those involving distributed systems, asynchronous processing, GraphQL APIs, and CI/CD automation.

Most recently, I led the technical architecture and hands-on implementation of a microservices platform on Kubernetes, integrating GraphQL APIs, BullMQ-based task processing, and secure access to over 15 databases. I also designed a robust AI/ML deployment framework enabling data scientists to ship serverless Python modules to production via a self-service interface backed by AWS Lambda and CDK. Separately, I helped launch a conversational AI system combining vector search (pgvector), Bedrock embeddings, and RAG-based generative responses.

While 80% hands-on in code, I also mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and collaborate across disciplines to align technical decisions with business goals. I'm passionate about developer productivity, system design, and simplifying complex problems through clean abstractions.

Outside of work, I enjoy exploring how generative AI can transform software tooling, knowledge management, and customer experiences.
