Daniel Aja
@danielaja
Environmental scientist using Earth Observation, spatial modelling, and AI to quantify forest carbon and restoration impacts.
What I'm looking for
I’m an environmental scientist focused on Earth Observation, forest carbon dynamics, land-use change, and AI-enabled environmental monitoring. I integrate multi-source satellite imagery, spatial modelling, and carbon accounting to quantify forest degradation, ecosystem restoration, and climate mitigation outcomes across tropical landscapes.
In recent visiting-researcher work with Alliance of Biodiversity International & CIAT, I assessed deforestation leakage and supported research across MITIGATE+ and sustainable cocoa landscapes. I led multidisciplinary, spatial assessments—mapping cocoa-producing regions, quantifying cultivation areas, generating high-resolution maps of cocoa expansion and vegetation loss, and modelling carbon storage and emissions from land-cover conversion.
My PhD research in Ghana strengthened my ability to model how land cover modifications affect mangrove productivity and carbon sequestration using remote sensing. I also bring strong teaching and research-support experience from lecturing GIS and remote sensing courses, supporting grant-winning proposal development, and conducting field/lab-informed data analysis for environmental decision-making.
