Arjen Oosterkamp

My name is Arjen Oosterkamp, I’m 38 years old, I live in the Netherlands with my wife and 4 year old daughter. For the past 13 years I’ve been working as a software engineer, mostly working with Ruby on Rails and React. Back in 2014 I co-founded a company called Booqable, a SaaS for the rental industry. After almost 10 years it was time for me to make a change. When I left Booqable the team had grown to 30 people, and the platform was serving millions of users.

I enjoy working on both the backend and frontend. I've spent years with Ruby on Rails, optimizing Postgres queries, and tackling performance issues. On the frontend, I've worked extensively with React, even building a custom UI kit and transitioning from BatmanJS to React.

I have a solution-oriented mindset and prefer keeping things simple rather than overcomplicating solutions. This approach, combined with deep product knowledge, makes a developer very productive. To me, productivity isn't about writing more code but making smart, effective decisions.

Beyond building features, I love making improvements that boost everyone's productivity. Whether it's optimizing the CI build, implementing continuous deployment, or creating a UI kit or design system, I believe a great developer experience is key to moving fast and delivering quality work.
