Role Overview
We are looking for a Principal Urban Designer to lead transformative urban design projects that enhance community livability and foster sustainable growth. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to create innovative design strategies that integrate environmental, social, and economic considerations, ultimately shaping vibrant urban spaces.
Responsibilities
- Lead the conceptualization and execution of urban design projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with project goals and community needs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, landscape architects, planners, and engineers to develop cohesive design solutions.
- Conduct site analysis and feasibility studies to inform design proposals and advocate for best practices in urban design.
- Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and residents, to gather input and foster collaboration throughout the design process.
- Prepare and present design concepts, plans, and reports to clients and stakeholders, effectively communicating the vision and benefits of the proposed designs.
- Mentor and guide junior designers in design principles, project management, and professional development.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.
- 10+ years of professional experience in urban design or a related discipline, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in urban design, planning, and project leadership.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and GIS.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Experience with zoning regulations, land use policies, and environmental review processes.
- Familiarity with sustainable design practices and community engagement methodologies.
- Professional licensure in architecture or landscape architecture.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in urban design principles, landscape integration, and public space activation.
- Strong analytical skills for data-driven decision making and urban analysis.
- Experience with 3D modeling and visualization tools to convey design intent.
