Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Supervisor to lead our underwriting team in evaluating and approving insurance applications. This critical role involves overseeing the underwriting process, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and driving operational efficiency while maintaining high-quality service for our clients.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor a team of underwriters, providing guidance on complex underwriting decisions and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement underwriting policies and procedures to ensure risk assessment is conducted effectively and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Review and approve underwriting decisions for high-value or complex cases, ensuring alignment with the company's risk appetite and profitability goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, claims, and risk management, to support business objectives and enhance client satisfaction.
- Analyze underwriting trends and metrics to identify areas for improvement and streamline processes.
- Lead training sessions for new and existing staff on underwriting best practices and industry developments.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in underwriting within the insurance industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong understanding of underwriting principles, practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to analyze complex risk scenarios and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across departments.
Preferred:
- Professional designations such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Associate in Commercial Underwriting (ACU).
- Experience with data analytics tools to enhance underwriting processes.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with underwriting software and risk assessment tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.
