Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead our underwriting team in delivering exceptional service and risk assessment for our clients. This role is critical in driving our underwriting strategy, enhancing risk selection processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, all while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the underwriting process for various products, ensuring timely and accurate risk assessments
- Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and policies to enhance risk management practices
- Lead and mentor a team of underwriters, providing guidance on complex cases and fostering professional development
- Collaborate with sales, claims, and actuarial teams to ensure alignment on risk appetite and underwriting strategies
- Analyze underwriting performance metrics and market trends to inform decision-making and improve outcomes
- Participate in the development of new insurance products, ensuring risk considerations are adequately addressed
- Maintain relationships with brokers and clients to understand their needs and provide exceptional service
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of underwriting experience in the insurance industry, with at least 2 years in a managerial role
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, practices, and regulatory requirements
- Proven track record of developing and implementing effective underwriting strategies
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to assess risk and make data-driven decisions
Preferred:
- Experience with specialty lines of insurance or niche markets
- Professional certifications such as CPCU, AU, or equivalent
- Proficiency in underwriting software and tools
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep understanding of risk assessment methodologies and underwriting processes
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques for underwriting performance evaluation
- Experience with CRM and policy management systems
