Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Transit Authority Police Chief to lead our dedicated law enforcement team, ensuring the safety and security of our transit systems and the communities we serve. This role encompasses the oversight of all policing operations while fostering a culture of transparency, community engagement, and proactive crime prevention strategies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive security strategies that address current and emerging threats to transit safety
- Lead, mentor, and assess a diverse team of law enforcement professionals, promoting professional development and accountability
- Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure effective response protocols and resource sharing
- Engage with community stakeholders to foster trust, transparency, and collaborative safety initiatives
- Conduct thorough investigations into incidents occurring within the transit system, ensuring adherence to legal and procedural standards
- Analyze crime trends and data to inform policy and operational decisions aimed at enhancing public safety
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Demonstrated experience in community policing and public safety initiatives within diverse populations
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws as well as regulations governing transit systems
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
- Experience in transit law enforcement or public transportation systems
- Proficiency in data-driven decision-making and the use of technology in law enforcement
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep understanding of law enforcement operation systems, including records management and incident reporting software
- Familiarity with surveillance technologies and crime analysis tools
- Experience with emergency response planning and crisis management protocols
