Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Highway Patrol Chief to lead our law enforcement agency's highway patrol division. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and security of our roadways, overseeing patrol operations, and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance public safety.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to highway patrol personnel, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures while fostering a culture of accountability and professionalism.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance traffic safety, reduce accidents, and improve response times to incidents on the highways.
- Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to coordinate enforcement efforts and share intelligence regarding traffic violations and criminal activities.
- Oversee training programs for patrol officers, focusing on advanced law enforcement techniques, traffic enforcement strategies, and community engagement.
- Monitor and evaluate performance metrics related to highway safety, patrol effectiveness, and officer productivity, making data-driven decisions to improve outcomes.
- Act as a primary representative for the highway patrol division in public relations and community outreach initiatives, promoting transparency and trust within the community.
- Manage departmental budgets, resources, and personnel, ensuring efficient allocation and utilization of assets.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 10+ years of experience in law enforcement, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role within a highway patrol or similar agency.
- Extensive knowledge of traffic laws, enforcement practices, and public safety initiatives.
- Proven track record of effective leadership and team management in high-pressure environments.
- Strong analytical skills and experience in using data to drive operational improvements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders and community members.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in criminal justice, public administration, or a related field.
- Experience in community policing strategies and public outreach programs.
- Certification from a nationally recognized law enforcement leadership organization.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in law enforcement technologies, including computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and incident reporting software.
- Familiarity with traffic management systems and tools for data analysis and reporting.
- Experience with law enforcement training programs and methodologies.
