Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Highway Patrol Officer to join our team, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of roadways within our jurisdiction. This role requires a strong commitment to public service and the ability to respond effectively to various situations that arise on the highways.
Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned highways and monitor traffic flow to ensure compliance with traffic laws and regulations.
- Respond to emergencies, accidents, and incidents on the highways, providing assistance and coordinating with other emergency services as needed.
- Conduct investigations into traffic accidents, including gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing detailed reports.
- Enforce laws related to speeding, impaired driving, and other traffic offenses, utilizing both proactive and reactive enforcement strategies.
- Participate in community outreach programs to educate the public on safe driving practices and promote awareness of highway safety issues.
- Maintain accurate records of patrol activities, incidents, and citations issued, ensuring documentation is thorough and timely.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in law enforcement is preferred.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including a criminal history review.
- Strong physical fitness and the ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in law enforcement or security-related roles.
- Completion of a police academy or law enforcement training program.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, regulations, and enforcement techniques.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with law enforcement tools and technologies, including radar systems, communication devices, and incident reporting software.
- Ability to operate law enforcement vehicles safely and effectively.
