Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Supervising Traffic Court Referee to oversee the adjudication of traffic violations and ensure fair and equitable treatment of all individuals in a remote capacity. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity of the traffic court system while providing leadership and guidance to other referees and court staff.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor a team of traffic court referees, providing guidance on legal standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct hearings regarding traffic violations, making determinations based on evidence and applicable law.
- Review and analyze case files, evidence, and witness testimonies to ensure thorough and fair adjudication.
- Develop training programs for new referees, enhancing their understanding of traffic law and court procedures.
- Collaborate with legal counsel and law enforcement agencies to address complex legal issues and improve court operations.
- Prepare detailed written decisions and orders, ensuring clarity and compliance with legal standards.
- Maintain accurate records of hearings, rulings, and related documentation in a digital format.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in the bar.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a judicial or administrative role, with a focus on traffic law.
- Strong understanding of traffic regulations, administrative procedures, and judicial ethics.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply legal principles and standards fairly and impartially.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a court environment.
- Familiarity with remote adjudication technologies and processes.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including court staff, attorneys, and the public.
