Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Revenue Accounting to lead our revenue accounting function at [$COMPANY_NAME]. This pivotal role will oversee the financial management of revenue recognition processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements. As the Director, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to provide insights that drive business growth and optimize our financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the revenue accounting team, fostering a high-performance culture through mentoring and development
- Oversee the revenue recognition process, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and other applicable standards
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of revenue recognition
- Collaborate with sales, finance, and operations teams to ensure accurate revenue forecasting and reporting
- Analyze and interpret complex contracts to determine revenue recognition implications
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior leadership, highlighting key insights and trends
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes related to revenue
- Act as a key point of contact for external auditors during financial audits
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on revenue recognition
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, ASC 606, and relevant regulatory requirements
- Experience leading and developing accounting teams
- Proven ability to analyze complex financial data and present actionable insights
Preferred:
- Experience in a publicly traded company or high-growth environment
- Advanced degree (MBA or Master’s in Accounting) is a plus
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably NetSuite or similar
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in financial reporting software and accounting systems
- Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to manipulate and analyze large data sets
- Familiarity with business intelligence tools for data analysis and reporting
