Role Overview
We are seeking a Principal Railroad Design Consultant to lead innovative design projects that enhance the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of rail systems. In this role, you will draw upon your extensive experience in railroad design and engineering to influence project direction and mentor junior engineers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services that meet client needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of complex railroad projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Oversee and mentor project teams, providing technical guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate innovative design solutions that optimize rail system performance
- Conduct feasibility studies and assessments to evaluate potential project risks and mitigation strategies
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to understand their needs and present design proposals and solutions effectively
- Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful project delivery
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 10+ years of experience in railroad design or civil engineering, with a focus on rail infrastructure projects
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification in relevant engineering discipline
- Strong knowledge of railroad engineering principles, design standards, and regulatory requirements
- Proven ability to lead and manage large-scale projects from concept to completion
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Experience with advanced design software and modeling tools specific to railroad engineering
- Strong network within the railroad industry and familiarity with emerging trends and technologies
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in railroad alignment and track design, including geometric design and capacity analysis
- Proficient in software tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and specialized railroad design applications
- Knowledge of signaling systems, station design, and rail yard layout
