Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Planner who will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of our planning initiatives. In this position, you will leverage your extensive experience in urban planning and policy development to lead complex projects, engage with diverse stakeholders, and drive transformative outcomes that align with our organizational mission.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of comprehensive planning strategies that address community needs and align with organizational objectives
- Engage with local government officials, community organizations, and other stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and ensure buy-in for planning initiatives
- Conduct in-depth analyses of land use, zoning, and environmental impact to inform development decisions
- Oversee the preparation of planning documents, reports, and presentations, ensuring clarity and accessibility for diverse audiences
- Mentor junior planners and staff, fostering a culture of professional growth and development within the team
- Stay abreast of emerging trends in urban planning, sustainability, and policy to inform strategic decision-making
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in urban planning or a related discipline, with demonstrated success in project leadership
- Strong understanding of zoning regulations, land use planning, and environmental policies
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to present complex information effectively
Preferred:
- Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
- Experience working with GIS software and other planning tools
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage large-scale projects
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in GIS software, urban planning tools, and project management platforms
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets to inform planning decisions
- Experience with community engagement tools and techniques
