Role Overview
We are seeking a visionary Director of Planetary Science to lead our cutting-edge research and exploration initiatives. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead innovative projects aimed at understanding planetary systems, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and driving advancements in planetary science technologies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategic research agenda focused on planetary science, aligning with the organization's long-term goals and vision
- Lead a diverse team of scientists and engineers in conducting groundbreaking research, including planetary geology, atmospherics, and astrobiology
- Establish partnerships with academic institutions, government agencies, and industry stakeholders to enhance collaborative research efforts
- Oversee the design and implementation of planetary missions, ensuring technical feasibility and scientific integrity
- Drive funding initiatives, including grant proposals and sponsorship opportunities, to support research projects and operational needs
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of innovation, integrity, and scientific excellence
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Planetary Science, Astronomy, Geology, or a related field
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in planetary science research and program management
- Proven track record of successful project leadership and publication in peer-reviewed journals
- Strong understanding of planetary science methodologies and data analysis techniques
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences
Preferred:
- Experience with mission design and execution for space exploration programs
- Familiarity with space agencies and the broader scientific community
- Demonstrated ability to secure funding through grants and partnerships
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in planetary instrumentation, remote sensing technologies, and data analysis software
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or R for data modeling and simulation
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other geospatial analysis tools
