Role Overview
We are seeking a distinguished Professor of Stellar Astronomy to join our academic team, specializing in the study of stellar bodies and phenomena. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to engage in world-class research, lead innovative educational programs, and contribute to the advancement of astronomical knowledge through rigorous scholarship and collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver high-quality undergraduate and graduate-level courses in stellar astronomy, fostering a stimulating learning environment
- Conduct and publish original research in the field of stellar astronomy, contributing to peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at international conferences
- Supervise and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, guiding their research projects and fostering their academic growth
- Participate in departmental and university committees, contributing to the strategic direction of the department and the institution
- Engage with the broader astronomical community, collaborating on interdisciplinary research initiatives and outreach programs
- Maintain an active online presence, disseminating research findings and engaging with the public to raise awareness of stellar science
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or a closely related field with a focus on stellar phenomena
- A strong record of published research in reputable academic journals
- Experience in teaching at the university level with demonstrated effectiveness in course delivery and student engagement
Preferred:
- Experience with grant writing and securing research funding from external sources
- Demonstrated ability to foster a diverse and inclusive academic environment
- Proficiency in using advanced computational techniques and observational tools in stellar research
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in stellar astrophysics, including stellar evolution, nucleosynthesis, and stellar dynamics
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or R for data analysis and simulations
- Familiarity with observational techniques and data from telescopes and space missions
