Role Overview
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Lead Peer Counselor to join our team, where you will play a pivotal role in providing support to individuals navigating mental health challenges. This position requires a blend of leadership, empathy, and a deep understanding of peer support methodologies. You will facilitate peer counseling sessions, train new counselors, and work closely with our mental health professionals to create a supportive environment for our clients.
Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate peer counseling sessions, ensuring a safe and welcoming space for participants
- Train and mentor new peer counselors, providing guidance on best practices and effective communication techniques
- Collaborate with mental health professionals to develop and implement peer support programs tailored to client needs
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of peer support initiatives and make recommendations for improvements
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with community resources and support networks to enhance the services offered
- Conduct outreach efforts to engage potential participants and raise awareness about peer counseling resources
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the overall strategy of mental health support services
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in peer counseling or related mental health support roles
- Strong understanding of mental health challenges and peer support principles
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated leadership experience, with a focus on training and mentoring
Preferred:
- Certification in peer support or related mental health fields
- Experience in program development and evaluation
- Familiarity with community resources and mental health services
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in virtual communication tools and platforms for remote counseling sessions
- Experience with data tracking and reporting for program evaluation
- Knowledge of mental health management software is a plus
