Role Overview
[$COMPANY_NAME] is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist to lead clinical practice, program development, and quality outcomes across outpatient, inpatient and community-based services in [$COMPANY_LOCATION]. In this senior clinical leadership role you will design and implement evidence-based occupational therapy programs, drive measurable patient functional outcomes, ensure regulatory and payer compliance, and mentor interdisciplinary teams. You will influence service strategy through data-driven clinical governance, clinical pathway optimization, and integration of assistive technologies and electronic medical record (EMR) workflows.
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced occupational therapy assessment and intervention across adult and geriatric populations (including post-acute, neurological, orthopedic and complex chronic conditions) with autonomy for caseload triage and clinical decision-making.
- Lead clinical program design: develop standardized care pathways, outcome measures, and protocols for ADL/IADL retraining, cognitive rehabilitation, upper-extremity rehabilitation, splinting, and adaptive equipment prescription.
- Champion clinical governance: establish KPIs (functional independence measure targets, readmission reduction, throughput, patient satisfaction), conduct regular audits, and implement continuous improvement cycles using Lean/PDCA methodologies.
- Supervise and mentor OTs, OTAs and students: provide structured clinical supervision, competency assessments, case reviews, and professional development plans.
- Manage complex cases and consult as a subject-matter expert for interdisciplinary teams (PT, SLP, nursing, social work, case management) including participation in discharge planning and utilization review.
- Integrate assistive technology and adaptive equipment strategies: evaluate, trial, and prescribe durable medical equipment (DME) and smart assistive technologies; liaise with vendors and third-party payers for authorization workflows.
- Optimize documentation and workflows in the EMR (e.g., Epic, Cerner or equivalent): develop standardized templates, outcome-tracking dashboards, and automated reporting to support clinical and operational decision-making.
- Ensure regulatory and payer compliance: maintain documentation and service delivery that meet Medicare, Medicaid, state licensure, and accreditation standards; support audits and appeals.
- Contribute to business strategy: analyze service line performance, forecast staffing needs, support service expansion proposals, and collaborate on budgeting and capital requests.
- Provide community and patient education initiatives, build referral relationships with physicians and healthcare networks, and represent [$COMPANY_NAME] at clinical meetings and conferences.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Current state Occupational Therapist licensure and active registration with the national licensing board as required in [$COMPANY_LOCATION].
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Minimum of 6+ years of clinical OT experience with progressive responsibility in acute, post-acute or outpatient settings; at least 2 years in mentorship or lead clinician roles.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing care pathways, outcome measurement programs, and clinical quality initiatives.
- Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and provide interdisciplinary clinical consultation.
- Strong knowledge of payer reimbursement models (Medicare Part A/B, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, commercial) and documentation for medical necessity.
- Proficiency with clinical EMRs (Epic, Cerner, or equivalent) and clinical outcome measurement tools (FIM, COPM, AM-PAC, Barthel Index, FIM).
Preferred:
- Certification(s) such as Board Certification in Occupational Therapy (if applicable), Certified Hand Therapist (CHT), or specialty certifications in neurological rehabilitation, geriatrics, or low vision.
- Experience with assistive technology ecosystems, telehealth OT delivery, and remote patient monitoring platforms.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in operational roles (clinical lead, program manager) including budget oversight and staffing models.
- Experience with quality improvement frameworks (Lean, Six Sigma) and data analytics for clinical outcome improvement.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Advanced clinical assessment skills: ADL/IADL analysis, dynamic splinting, functional cognition assessment, manual therapy, and therapeutic modalities.
- Clinical outcome measurement and analytics: experience implementing and interpreting FIM, AM-PAC, COPM, DASH, Berg Balance, timed-up-and-go, and other standardized measures.
- EMR proficiency: creating templates, flowsheets, and generating compliance and ROI reports (Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or similar).
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and DME prescription workflows, telehealth platforms (Zoom for Healthcare, Doxy.me), and remote monitoring devices.
- Competence with Microsoft Power BI/Tableau or equivalent for clinical dashboards is a plus.

Location
This is a hybrid clinical position based in [$COMPANY_LOCATION].
