Role Overview
We are seeking a Principal Wildlife Biologist to lead and direct innovative research initiatives aimed at conserving wildlife and their habitats. In this role, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of wildlife ecology and conservation biology to shape strategic projects, mentor junior biologists, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve impactful results.
Responsibilities
- Design and oversee complex field studies to assess wildlife populations, distribution, and habitat use, ensuring rigorous scientific methodologies are employed.
- Lead the development and implementation of conservation management plans that incorporate the latest ecological research and stakeholder input.
- Mentor and guide junior staff in research design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation, fostering a culture of scientific excellence.
- Collaborate with governmental agencies, NGOs, and academic institutions to align conservation efforts with policy and regulatory frameworks.
- Prepare and present research findings to diverse audiences, including policymakers, stakeholders, and the public, effectively communicating the significance of wildlife conservation.
- Secure funding for research projects through grant writing and developing partnerships with funding organizations.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- PhD in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, or a related field with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in wildlife research and conservation.
- Proven track record of leading successful research projects and managing interdisciplinary teams.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating expertise in wildlife ecology and conservation practices.
- Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SAS) and GIS applications.
Preferred:
- Experience with endangered species recovery programs and habitat restoration projects.
- Demonstrated ability to secure research funding through grants and partnerships.
- Familiarity with current legislative and regulatory frameworks affecting wildlife conservation.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in wildlife telemetry, population modeling, and habitat assessment techniques.
- Proficiency in ecological modeling software and GIS tools for spatial analysis.
- Strong data management skills, including experience with large datasets and database management.
