Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Director of Wildlife Biology to lead our research initiatives and strategic conservation programs. In this pivotal role, you will guide a team of biologists and researchers in developing innovative approaches to wildlife management and conservation, ensuring the protection of biodiversity within our ecosystems.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee wildlife biology research projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and conservation priorities
- Develop and implement comprehensive wildlife management strategies based on ecological research and data analysis
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including policy advocates, field researchers, and community stakeholders to promote effective conservation practices
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior biologists, fostering a culture of scientific inquiry and professional development
- Present research findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and conservation organizations
- Manage budgets and resources effectively to optimize research outcomes and project impacts
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, or a related field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in wildlife research and management
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and experience in grant writing
- Proven leadership experience in managing research teams and conservation projects
- In-depth knowledge of wildlife ecology, conservation biology, and ecological modeling
- Experience in data analysis using statistical software (e.g., R, Python) and GIS applications
Preferred:
- Experience in policy development and advocacy related to wildlife conservation
- Familiarity with endangered species legislation and habitat conservation planning
- Strong network within the wildlife biology community and conservation organizations
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in advanced ecological modeling and data analysis techniques
- Proficiency in GIS software for spatial analysis and habitat mapping
- Experience with telemetry and remote sensing technologies for wildlife tracking
- Knowledge of statistical programming languages, such as R or Python
