Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Detective Captain to lead our investigative team in solving complex cases and ensuring the safety and security of our community. As a Detective Captain, you will be responsible for overseeing investigations, providing strategic direction, and fostering a culture of collaboration and integrity within the department.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of detectives, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to achieve departmental goals and objectives
- Oversee the investigation of major crimes, including homicides, sexual assaults, and organized crime, ensuring thoroughness and adherence to legal standards
- Develop and implement investigative strategies, utilizing data analysis and crime trend assessments to allocate resources effectively
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, community organizations, and stakeholders to enhance investigative efforts and community relations
- Review case files, evidence, and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness, making recommendations for further action where necessary
- Prepare and present reports to senior management and community stakeholders, articulating the status and outcomes of investigations
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Extensive experience in law enforcement, with a minimum of 7 years in investigative roles
- Proven track record of leadership and team management within a law enforcement or investigative environment
- Strong understanding of criminal law, investigative techniques, and case management processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholders
Preferred:
- Experience in a specialized investigative unit, such as homicide, cybercrime, or fraud
- Advanced degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field
- Certification from a recognized law enforcement training institution
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in investigative software and tools, including case management systems and data analysis platforms
- Familiarity with modern forensics techniques and technologies
- Experience with crime analysis methodologies and geographic information systems (GIS)
