Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Radiation Safety to lead our organization's radiation safety program. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while fostering a culture of safety and awareness across all departments. You will oversee the development and implementation of radiation safety policies, ensuring the protection of our employees, patients, and the environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and management of a comprehensive radiation safety program in accordance with state and federal regulations
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of radiation facilities to ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements
- Develop and deliver training programs on radiation safety for staff at all levels, promoting a culture of safety awareness
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and mitigate radiation risks associated with new projects and technologies
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of radiation safety issues
- Analyze exposure data and prepare reports for senior management and regulatory bodies, demonstrating a clear understanding of trends and safety measures
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in Health Physics, Environmental Science, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in radiation safety, with a proven track record of leadership in a healthcare or research environment
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements governing radiation safety (NRC, EPA, etc.)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and develop actionable safety strategies
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders
Preferred:
- Certification from the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) or equivalent
- Experience managing teams and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in safety practices
- Familiarity with radiation safety technologies and best practices in risk management
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in radiation detection and measurement tools (e.g., Geiger counters, dosimeters)
- Experience with software for tracking radiation exposure and safety compliance
- Ability to develop and manage databases for incident reporting and safety training
