Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and visionary Director of Hazardous Materials Engineering to lead our efforts in managing hazardous materials across the organization. This pivotal role will require you to develop, implement, and oversee programs that ensure compliance with regulations while promoting best practices in hazardous materials management. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and operational excellence, while ensuring the safety and sustainability of our processes and products.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of hazardous materials management strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
- Oversee the evaluation, selection, and implementation of hazardous materials technologies and processes that drive efficiency and innovation.
- Establish and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of hazardous materials programs and initiatives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, ensuring timely and effective communication regarding hazardous materials compliance.
- Mentor and guide a team of engineers and specialists, fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Collaborate with product development, supply chain, and operations teams to integrate hazardous materials management into the overall business strategy.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in hazardous materials management, with a proven record of leadership in a complex regulatory environment.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to hazardous materials.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to formulate strategies based on data-driven insights.
Preferred:
- Experience in a leadership role within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or similar.
- Demonstrated success in implementing sustainable practices related to hazardous materials.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in hazardous materials regulations, risk assessment methodologies, and compliance management systems.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems (EMS) and safety management systems (SMS).
- Proficient in using data analysis tools and software relevant to hazardous materials management.
