Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Emergency Management Director to lead our organization's emergency preparedness and response efforts. This role is critical in developing and implementing comprehensive emergency management plans that ensure the safety and resilience of our communities during crises.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee emergency management programs and policies that align with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Lead the planning and execution of emergency response activities, including drills, training, and simulations to prepare staff and stakeholders.
- Coordinate with government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations to enhance emergency response capabilities and ensure effective resource allocation.
- Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential threats and develop mitigation strategies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for emergency management during incidents, ensuring clear communication and effective decision-making.
- Manage a team of emergency management professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
- Prepare and manage budgets for emergency management programs, ensuring efficient use of resources and compliance with funding requirements.
- Develop public awareness programs to educate the community on emergency preparedness and response protocols.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in emergency management, public safety, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in emergency management or related fields, with a proven track record in leadership roles.
- Strong knowledge of emergency management principles, practices, and regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in crisis management, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in emergency management, public administration, or a related field.
- Certification from recognized emergency management organizations (e.g., Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Associate Emergency Manager (AEM)).
- Experience in grant writing and management for emergency management programs.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in emergency management software and tools for planning, response, and recovery.
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for mapping and analysis of disaster impacts.
- Familiarity with incident command systems and emergency operations center (EOC) management.
