Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Emergency Preparedness to lead and optimize our comprehensive emergency management strategies. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing robust preparedness programs, ensuring that our organization is equipped to respond effectively to emergencies and disasters.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine emergency preparedness policies and plans, aligning with national standards and best practices
- Lead the assessment of risks and vulnerabilities, creating strategies to mitigate potential impacts on operations
- Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as community partners, to enhance collaboration and resource sharing
- Oversee training and exercises for staff and stakeholders to ensure effective emergency response
- Manage budgets and resources for emergency preparedness initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of emergency preparedness programs, making data-driven adjustments as needed
- Provide expert guidance to leadership on emergency preparedness trends, policies, and regulatory requirements
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in emergency management, public safety, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in emergency management or disaster response, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Demonstrated knowledge of local, state, and federal emergency management regulations and practices
- Proven track record of developing and implementing comprehensive emergency preparedness programs
Preferred:
- Certification in emergency management (e.g., CEM, TEM) or related credentials
- Experience with incident command systems and crisis communication strategies
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and methodologies for risk assessment
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Strong understanding of emergency management software and tools for planning and response
- Expertise in risk assessment methodologies and frameworks
- Proficiency in project management software and collaborative tools
