Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Dredge Deckhand to oversee dredging operations and ensure the efficient and safe functioning of all deck activities. In this pivotal role, you will lead a team of deckhands, managing daily operations and maintaining equipment to support our commitment to excellence in marine construction and environmental restoration.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of deckhands, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and operational protocols
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of dredging equipment, including pumps, hoses, and other machinery to ensure optimal performance
- Assist in the operation of dredging equipment and support vessels, ensuring adherence to project specifications and timelines
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment and work areas to identify hazards and implement corrective actions
- Train and mentor deckhands on best practices, safety protocols, and operational techniques
- Maintain accurate records of operational activities, equipment performance, and safety incidents
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in marine operations, particularly in dredging or similar environments
- Strong understanding of dredging equipment, marine safety standards, and operational procedures
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing a team in a high-stakes environment
Preferred:
- Certification in marine operations or safety training (e.g., STCW, OSHA)
- Experience with environmental restoration projects and sediment management
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with dredging software and equipment diagnostics
- Proficient in using tools and machinery related to marine operations
- Experience with hydraulic and mechanical systems
