Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Captain for our Fishing Vessel. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the safe navigation and operation of the vessel, ensuring compliance with all maritime laws and regulations while leading a dedicated crew. You will leverage your extensive knowledge of fishing practices and vessel management to maximize efficiency and sustainability of our operations.
Responsibilities
- Command the fishing vessel, ensuring the safety of crew and equipment during all operations.
- Plan and execute fishing trips, selecting optimal locations based on environmental and market factors.
- Oversee the maintenance and operation of all vessel systems, ensuring readiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Lead a skilled crew, providing training, guidance, and performance evaluations to foster a high-performing team environment.
- Manage fishing quotas and regulations, ensuring adherence to all legal requirements and promoting sustainable practices.
- Maintain accurate logs of all fishing activities, vessel performance, and crew operations for reporting and analysis.
- Collaborate with shore-based management to develop strategies for operational improvements and cost efficiencies.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Valid Captain's license (USCG or equivalent) with appropriate endorsements.
- 5+ years of experience commanding fishing vessels in commercial operations.
- Strong knowledge of maritime navigation, fishing techniques, and vessel safety protocols.
- Proven experience in crew management and training.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions in challenging environments.
Preferred:
- Experience with sustainable fishing practices and marine conservation initiatives.
- Proficiency in using modern navigation and fish-finding technologies.
- First Aid/CPR certification and other relevant safety training.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in maritime navigation, GPS systems, and VHF radio communication.
- Familiarity with fishing gear, maintenance practices, and catch handling techniques.
- Ability to analyze weather patterns and sea conditions to ensure safe operations.
