Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Crab Fishing Captain to lead our fishing operations in pursuit of sustainable and high-quality crab catches. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all aspects of crab fishing, including crew management, vessel navigation, and compliance with fishing regulations, ensuring the safety of the crew and the integrity of our operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a crew of fishermen, fostering a culture of teamwork and safety onboard.
- Navigate fishing routes to optimize catch while adhering to environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
- Monitor weather conditions and make critical decisions regarding fishing activities to ensure crew safety.
- Maintain and operate fishing gear and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order and compliant with safety standards.
- Conduct training for crew members on best practices for crab harvesting and safety protocols.
- Document catch data, maintain logs, and report to management on fishing performance and compliance.
- Oversee the maintenance of the vessel and coordinate repairs as needed to ensure operational readiness.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience as a fishing captain or in a similar leadership role in commercial fishing.
- Strong knowledge of crab species, fishing techniques, and relevant regulations.
- Proven track record of successful fishing operations with a focus on safety and sustainability.
- Valid captain's license and relevant certifications for operating commercial fishing vessels.
Preferred:
- Experience with crab fishing in the Pacific Northwest or similar environments.
- Familiarity with modern fishing technologies and equipment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills to effectively manage a diverse crew.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
