Role Overview
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Commercial Crabber to join our dynamic fishing team. In this role, you'll be responsible for harvesting crabs in compliance with sustainable practices while ensuring the safety and efficiency of operations. You'll leverage your expertise in crab fishing techniques to contribute to our mission of providing high-quality seafood to our customers.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain crab fishing equipment, including traps and boats, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times.
- Monitor crab populations and habitats to ensure sustainable harvesting practices.
- Coordinate with team members to strategize the best fishing locations and times based on environmental conditions.
- Document catch data and maintain records of inventory and equipment usage.
- Ensure compliance with local and federal fishing regulations, including size and catch limits.
- Participate in safety drills and training sessions to promote a culture of safety within the team.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Proven experience in commercial crabbing or related fishing activities.
- Strong knowledge of crab species, habitats, and sustainable fishing practices.
- Ability to work long hours in varying weather conditions and remote locations.
Preferred:
- Experience operating boats and navigational equipment.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in using fishing equipment and technology, such as GPS and sonar for locating crab populations.
- Familiarity with safety and emergency response protocols in marine environments.
