Role Overview
We are seeking a visionary and experienced Director of Music/Organist to lead our music ministry and enhance the spiritual and artistic life of our community. This role requires a strong blend of musical expertise, leadership skills, and a passion for fostering a vibrant worship experience. You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing music programs that align with our mission and values.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive music program that includes traditional, contemporary, and choral music to enrich worship services.
- Conduct rehearsals and performances, ensuring the highest standards of musicianship and collaboration.
- Recruit, train, and mentor musicians, vocalists, and volunteers within the music ministry.
- Collaborate with clergy and other ministry leaders to select music that enhances the worship experience and supports the church's thematic focus.
- Oversee the maintenance and care of the church's musical instruments, including the organ and other sound equipment.
- Engage the congregation through innovative music initiatives, workshops, and community outreach programs.
- Evaluate and adapt the music program based on feedback and changing needs of the congregation.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a music leadership role within a church or similar setting.
- Proficiency in organ and piano performance, with a strong understanding of various musical styles and traditions.
- Experience in conducting choirs and leading musical ensembles.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and lead a diverse group of musicians.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Music or a related field.
- Familiarity with contemporary worship music and technology.
- Experience with music composition and arranging.
- Ability to integrate visual arts and music into worship services.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in music notation software (e.g., Finale, Sibelius).
- Knowledge of sound systems and recording equipment.
- Experience with digital resources for worship music planning and management.
