Role Overview
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Director of Child Life Services to lead our dedicated team in providing exceptional support to children and families during their healthcare journey. In this pivotal role, you will implement child life programs that enhance the emotional and psychological well-being of pediatric patients, fostering a healing environment through play, education, and therapeutic interventions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee comprehensive child life programs that address the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients and their families
- Lead and mentor a team of certified child life specialists, promoting professional growth and ensuring adherence to best practices
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to integrate child life services into patient care plans
- Conduct assessments of the emotional and developmental needs of patients, devising tailored interventions
- Advocate for patient-centered care and ensure the provision of developmentally appropriate activities for children in healthcare settings
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of child life programs, making data-driven improvements as necessary
- Engage with families to provide emotional support and guidance, helping them navigate the healthcare experience
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in child life services with at least 2 years in a leadership role
- Certification as a Child Life Specialist (CCLS) from the Association of Child Life Professionals
- Strong knowledge of child development principles and therapeutic play techniques
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred:
- Experience in a pediatric healthcare setting
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care practices
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Experience in program development and evaluation
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in patient care software and electronic health records (EHR)
- Knowledge of assessment tools for measuring psychological and emotional well-being in children
- Experience with virtual therapeutic programs or telehealth services
