Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Neonatal Social Worker to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to families with newborns facing medical challenges, ensuring they navigate their journeys with the right resources, emotional support, and advocacy. You'll work closely with healthcare teams to develop and implement care plans that address both the medical and psychosocial needs of families.
Responsibilities
- Assess the psychosocial needs of families with newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and develop tailored support plans
- Provide counseling and emotional support to families, helping them cope with the complexities of their newborn's health challenges
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, and therapists, to ensure holistic care for infants and their families
- Facilitate access to community resources and services, including financial assistance, housing, and healthcare
- Advocate for the needs of families within the healthcare system, ensuring their voices are heard and respected
- Conduct educational sessions for families to help them understand their newborn's condition and available support
- Document all interactions and interventions in compliance with healthcare regulations and standards
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program
- Licensure as a clinical social worker (LCSW) or equivalent in the relevant state
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably with neonatal or pediatric populations
- Strong understanding of neonatal health issues and the impact on families
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with families in distress
Preferred:
- Experience in a NICU setting or with medically complex infants
- Familiarity with community resources and support systems available to families
- Experience in crisis intervention and trauma-informed care
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation and communication
- Familiarity with telehealth platforms for remote support and counseling sessions
- Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations related to healthcare and social services
