Role Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented Autopsy Assistant to join our forensic pathology team. In this pivotal role, you will assist forensic pathologists in the performance of autopsies, ensuring that all necessary evidence is meticulously collected and documented. Your contributions will play a crucial role in the investigation of cause and manner of death, aiding in the pursuit of justice and providing closure to families.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and performance of autopsies, ensuring all protocols are followed for evidence collection
- Document findings and maintain accurate records of all autopsy procedures, including photographs and notes for case reports
- Coordinate with law enforcement and other stakeholders to ensure proper chain of custody for evidence
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the autopsy suite and related laboratory equipment
- Participate in the training of new staff and interns, fostering a collaborative learning environment
- Support forensic pathologists in research activities and case studies as required
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Associate's degree in a relevant field (e.g., biology, forensic science, or similar)
- Experience working in a laboratory or clinical setting, preferably with exposure to forensic sciences
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in forensic science or a related field
- Prior experience in a forensic autopsy setting or with medical terminology
- Familiarity with evidence collection and preservation techniques
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in data entry and case management software
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and procedures
- Basic understanding of medical and legal terminology
