Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Automotive Sheet Metal Engineer to join our innovative engineering team at [$COMPANY_NAME]. Responsibilities
- Lead the design, analysis, and development of sheet metal components, focusing on manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and performance
- Develop and refine design specifications and oversee the creation of engineering documentation, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to establish robust manufacturing processes, including die design and tooling
- Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and other simulations to validate designs and optimize performance
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the team, promoting best practices in sheet metal design and engineering methodologies
- Act as a key liaison between engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to resolve technical issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in sheet metal design and engineering within the automotive industry
- Proven expertise in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus)
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes related to sheet metal fabrication, including stamping, welding, and assembly
- Experience with automotive standards and regulations, including ISO/TS 16949
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Experience with lightweight materials and advanced manufacturing techniques
- Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and driving successful product launches
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep expertise in sheet metal forming and fabrication techniques
- Proficient in using CAD and FEA software for design and analysis
- Familiarity with industry-standard testing methods for sheet metal components
