Meet the team!

Our Engineering team is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the systems and technologies that drive Unifonic’s solutions. We work closely with other departments to ensure our products and services meet the needs of our customers. If you are passionate about technology and are excited about working on cutting-edge communication and engagement solutions, we want you on our team. As Engineering Lead, Software you will be playing an active part in the hands-on process of building software and managing your own team. In this role, you will be contributing to production-facing code on a regular basis.

Help us shape the future of communication by:

  • Supporting with recruitment & hiring of engineering talent and facilitate the onboarding of new team members.

  • Working with other engineering teams to identify and anticipate changing requirements and opportunities to improve the development environment.

  • Working with product managers, designers, and engineers to prioritize, plan, and schedule work.

  • Communicating status, risks, and requirements to other groups.

  • Providing technical and non-technical guidance to the team, both individually and as a group.

  • Facilitating continuous learning and improvement for the team and its members.

  • Working in a dynamic environment embracing the challenge of adapting to evolving requirements and frequently shifting priorities with agility.

  • Leading, mentoring and inspiring a team of developers to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Providing technical guidance and expertise to the team, ensuring adherence to best practices, coding standards, and architectural principles while conducting regular performance evaluations, offering constructive feedback, and supporting the professional growth and development of team members.

Requirements

What you’ll bring:

  • Hands-on 7+ years of relevant engineering work experience and 4+ hands-on technical management experience in shipping large-scale projects with multiple dependencies across teams.

  • Hands-on 5+ years of experience as a Python, GO or JAVA Developer and 5+ years in database management (MySQL, Casandra. etc)

  • Experience with high-volume solutions.

  • Must be able to spend substantial time interfacing with the offshore teams on a daily basis.

  • Fluent in English with excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.

  • Practical experience in queuing systems/Message Brokers like (RabbitMQ, Kfka, SQS, etc...).

  • Practical experience with cache technologies (Memcached, Redis).

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Software, or a related discipline or the equivalent.

  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining sight of the big picture.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to apply business logic to development requirements in a creative manner.

  • General knowledge in telecommunications (SMSC, SMPP, charging systems, HLRMNP etc.)

Unifonic's journey began in 2006, not in a boardroom, but amongst a group of visionary university students in the Middle East. At the time, mobile internet connectivity was limited, and popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook were yet to dominate the communication landscape. Recognizing a gap, particularly the restrictions on sending bulk SMS messages, Ahmed Hamdan and his brother Hassan Hamdan, then software engineering students, developed 'Resalaty'. Despite the initial challenges of a nascent startup ecosystem, lacking robust financial plans and readily available mentorship, Resalaty gained traction. This early success and a clear vision for the future of business communication led to its rebranding as Unifonic. A significant turning point arrived in 2010 with a contract from Toyota Saudi Arabia, paving the way for further growth. The company opened its first physical office in Khobar, Saudi Arabia, in 2008. By 2014, Unifonic had processed its first billion transactions, a testament to its growing influence. A major milestone was achieved in 2018 when Unifonic secured $21 million in a Series A funding round, providing the capital to build a solid foundation for its ambitious plans. This funding was instrumental in evolving beyond basic SMS to address the growing need for richer customer engagement. Recognizing the shift towards multi-channel communication, Unifonic partnered with Facebook in 2019, becoming one of the first WhatsApp solution providers in the Middle East. This strategic move significantly changed the landscape of customer interaction in the region. The momentum continued, and in 2021, Unifonic raised a substantial $125 million in a Series B round, co-led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and Sanabil Investments, to accelerate its growth and international expansion. In 2022, Unifonic further solidified its position in the AI-powered communication space by acquiring Sestek, a company specializing in AI solutions, to complement its product portfolio. Today, Unifonic stands as a leading customer engagement platform, processing over 10 billion transactions annually for thousands of businesses across more than 160 countries. From its new headquarters in Riyadh, Unifonic continues to drive digital transformation and foster innovation in line with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.
