The Organization

At Thrive Scholars, we provide high-achieving students from under-resourced communities the opportunities they need to thrive at top colleges and in meaningful careers.

Our comprehensive and data-drivenprogram model focuses on the key inflection points that can be the difference between graduating from any college and graduating from a top college with the grades, degree, career skills, and network needed to thrive in any career. Thrive Scholars originated in Los Angeles as South Central Scholars (“SCS”) twenty years ago. Over this time, the organization has refined its program model and, in the last five years, has focused on expanding nationally; reaching more high-achieving students from under-resourced communities, growing the number of Scholars we serve; and deepening our program impact. Thrive Scholars has begun to grow its footprint with new summer program offerings in three additional cities. The organization has approximately 75 year-round employees and close to 200 summer employees.

The Position:

The Alumni Data Specialist plays a key role in measuring the long-term impact of our programs by collecting, organizing, and analyzing data on program alumni. This position will develop and manage systems to track educational and career outcomes—including postsecondary enrollment, graduate school attendance, employment trajectories, and salary growth—to provide a comprehensive view of how our alumni are progressing after completing our program.

This role requires a blend of data management expertise, analytical insight, and relationship-building skills, ensuring data collection efforts are both rigorous and respectful of alumni experiences. This role will report directly to the CEO.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Collection & Management

  • Design and implement data collection tools (surveys, outreach campaigns, LinkedIn scraping, etc.) to gather accurate and comprehensive information about alumni education, employment, and career milestones.
  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement and Career Development teams to maintain up-to-date alumni contact information.
  • Ensure all data collection methods comply with privacy standards and organizational data policies.
  • Manage data imports, cleaning, validation, and standardization across multiple sources (Salesforce, Excel, Google Sheets, or other CRM systems).

Analysis & Reporting

  • Compile and analyze alumni outcome data to identify trends in education attainment, graduate school enrollment, career progression, and salary benchmarks.
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations that communicate key insights to internal and external audiences (executive leadership, funders, and partners).
  • Prepare regular summary reports highlighting longitudinal outcomes, impact metrics, and areas for program improvement.
  • Partner with the Development and Communications teams to translate data into compelling impact stories and visuals for grant proposals, reports, and marketing materials.

Process Improvement & Collaboration

  • Recommend and implement process improvements for data integrity, automation, and efficiency.
  • Serve as an internal subject-matter expert on alumni data management and reporting.
  • Support cross-team efforts to integrate alumni outcome data with program evaluation frameworks.

Qualifications and Experience:
There are innumerable ways to learn, grow and excel professionally. We respect this when we review applications and take a broad look at the experience of each applicant. The qualifications and experiences listed below are intended as a guide; we do not expect candidates to check every box. If you believe you can meet the expectations and responsibilities of this position, we want to get to know you and the unique strengths you will bring to the work.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Social Science, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience managing and analyzing data—preferably in a nonprofit, higher education, or research setting.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel/Google Sheets, and experience with a data management or CRM platform (Salesforce preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to clean, analyze, and visualize large data sets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into clear, audience-appropriate insights.

Other job duties within the general scope of the role may be assigned.

Compensation and Benefits:

Thrive Scholars offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including high-quality health, dental, and disability insurance, three weeks of paid vacation, and access to an employer-matched retirement plan. This is a temporary, full-time, exempt position.

Equal Employment Opportunities:

Thrive Scholars provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment based on race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, age, disability, or veteran status. We strongly encourage people of all backgrounds to apply.
