What began in 1961 as a grassroots movement by a group of determined parents seeking equity, access, and opportunity for their children with disabilities has evolved into a dynamic and forward-thinking organization. Originally founded as The Arc of Anne Arundel County, the organization has a rich history of advocating for the rights and full inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). These founding families rejected the prevailing notion of institutionalization, instead championing a future where their children could live, learn, and thrive within their own communities. For over six decades, the organization has been a steadfast presence in Maryland, expanding its reach from Anne Arundel County to the Eastern Shore, touching the lives of thousands.

This journey of growth and adaptation reached a significant milestone in May 2024, when The Arc Central Chesapeake Region announced its rebranding to Fello. This change was more than just a new name; it represented a deeper commitment to its core mission and a strategic move to better serve the evolving needs of the community. The name Fello was chosen to embody the spirit of partnership, community, and unwavering support that has been the hallmark of the organization since its inception. Today, Fello stands as a testament to the power of community, serving over 4,000 Marylanders and employing nearly 650 team members. Its comprehensive services span the entire lifecycle, from supporting children and their families through educational advocacy and family navigation to providing adults with workforce development, residential programs, and behavioral health services. As Fello, the organization continues to build on its legacy, championing inclusion, opportunity, and choice, and creating a future where every person with a disability feels a genuine sense of belonging.
